Conservation Society of Pohnpei (CSP) TASIK Spring Project
From April 16-18, 2024, the Conservation Society of Pohnpei (CSP) and PREL hosted a 3-day workshop at the Office of Fisheries and Aquaculture (OFA) conference room in Kolonia. The workshop kicked off CSP’s new anti-littering campaign project, funded by SPC. To build on TASIK research and lessons learned during last year’s summer program in Madolenihmw, 20 youths from Sokehs, U, Madolenihmw, Kitti and Nett came together.
The youths learned about Pohnpei’s anti-littering law and the importance of not littering. They also learned about TASIK concepts and elements of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) in stories from our places. They formulated an action plan and started narrowing down possible campaign slogans for effective outreach in their communities.

Before wrapping up the 3-day workshop, the group identified illegal coastal dumping sites in Sokehs and U municipality to target for outreach activities. The group pledged to bring attention to illegal dumping sites in their communities and help clean up these such places. From April 20 – June 1, 2024, the group met on Saturdays to pick up for 3-4 hour to collect and dispose of garbage in selected sites in U and Sokehs, listened to stories, and discussed ways to reach community members especially other young people to properly dispose of trash. The group learned and practiced different weaving styles using coconut fronds, discussed elements of STEAM in their own stories and planned possible activities to focus on for the TASIK summer program, scheduled for July 23-27, 2024.
