TASIK
Transformative Advocates for STEAM Innovation and Knowledge

“Our ancestors were scientists from the very beginning. They observed and collected data...they tested and tried new things.”

—Dr. Nicole Yamase, marine biologist and first Micronesian and Pacific Islander to visit Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench

TASIK is an Advancing Informal STEM Learning project funded by the National Science Foundation. Over the course of the four-year program (2022 – 2026), TASIK is working with partners across the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) —the states of Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk, and Yap—the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), and Guam to understand how exploration of Indigenous storytelling and technologies impact youths’ interest, self-efficacy, and persistence in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

We humbly acknowledge the traditional leaders, elders, knowledge holders and stewards of the lands and the waters who support the TASIK work. Thank you for your presence and time, your interest in TASIK, and your willingness to share your skills, knowledge, and values toward a bright, shared future.
